100 Years Ago, This Is How A Family With 13 Kids Fit Everyone In A Single Car!

Meet the Noonans, a family in the 1920s with thirteen kids – this family is so big they even made the cover of the Boston newspaper!

The size of this family is clearly exceptional, as the average family in their 20s has 2.3 children.

Due to the attention of others, the family was asked to pose for the camera for Leslie Jones, a photographer working at the Boston Herald-Traveler.

In these photos, we see parents, an infant of unknown gender, ten girls and two boys lining up at their doorstep.

Just looking at the photo of their shoes, I wonder how they manage to do different everyday tasks like washing and washing dishes.

Can you even guess how much food the family will have to buy?

But, the next photo is the one that grabs all the attention –

It turned out that this family only had one car, so Noonans had to develop a system to fit everyone inside the car.

As the photo shows, the tallest kids stack up in the back, while the others slightly shorter than them sit in the front. Very small children sit right behind their parents.

Despite the slight safety concerns, this single car family photo is still stunning.

Here’s another fun photo of them, trying to draw everyone in under an umbrella. Obviously it doesn’t work, but the smile on each family member’s face is priceless!

According to Tip Hero,

descendants of this family recognized the photos and contacted them to share more information. Maralin Manning and John Noonan, who actually appear in these photos, say their family lives in Lawrence, Massachusetts.

The father pictured, Maurice Noonan, is an immigrant from Ireland. With his wife, he runs a small pub called The Morning Glory; In addition, he worked to establish unions in the wool industry.

Mabel Metcalf Noonan is the mother in the photo who sadly passed away with their youngest child 4 years ago these pictures were taken.

Despite such tragedy, both Maralin and John say that Maurice did a great job taking care of her family – even after Mabel was gone.
