4 differences between healthy and unhealthy jealousy in a relationship. Which one are you in?

Whether it’s a mild or major case, jealousy can have a big impact on your relationship. You may feel jealousy when you experience the heightened threat from a rival. Most of us become jealous when we see our spouse having a great time with a person of the opposite sex – especially if that person seems a little too friendly. No matter how much your spouse may attempt to reassure you, another person’s interest in him or her raises all your red flags.

Jealousy can be either healthy or unhealthy. Healthy jealousy is a means to guard your territory and comes from a sincere care and commitment to a relationship. On the other hand, unhealthy jealousy manifests itself through lies, threats, self-pity, and feelings of inadequacy, inferiority and insecurity. Here are the main differences between healthy and unhealthy jealousy.

#Difference 1

Healthy

Of course, you can be a little envious when your partner goes out with other people or is having a fun time without you.

But you’re aware that you both deserve some independence and space.

Unhealthy

You literally forbid your partner to go out, meet his friends and have fun without you. You think that you should do everything together.

#Difference 2

Healthy

You wonder what he is doing when he is not around you. But you simply miss him and wish you could be together.

Unhealthy

You are obsessed with checking where he is and what he is doing, for example, by calling or texting him all the time.

You become angry when you don’t know all the details from his day and what he was doing without you. Sometimes you even follow him behaving like a detective!

#Difference 3

Healthy

You feel slightly uncomfortable when he is friendly with other girls.

However, you know that he can still have friends no matter what their gender is. You trust him knowing that he only loves you.

Unhealthy

You believe that everyone your partner talks to is a danger for your relationship. You think that he ᴄʜᴇᴀᴛs on you if he is friendly with some other girl.

#Difference 4

Healthy

In your opinion, he can wear what he wants and you shouldn’t criticize his choices. But of course, you don’t want him to receive unwanted attention.

Unhealthy

You control what he wears and become angry seeing some of his clothes. You don’t want other girls to look at him with desire.
