When our kids go to school, we’re trusting everyone who works for the school to keep them safe.
Sometimes, our kids are in danger.
Troy Luna’s parents were not overly protective of their boy. But like most other parents, they were dedicated to teaching him the basics of safety.
They taught him to never trust adults, even the ones that he saw frequently, and to tell the authorities about anyone acting suspiciously around kids. Troy’s parents hoped that their boy would never have to use this advice. They were wrong.
Troy Luna of Crows Landing, California was experiencing an average day until he took a bus ride in the afternoon. There were 30 children on the bus from Bonita Landing Elementary School. The students ranged in age from fifth graders all the way down to kindergartners. Troy was one of the upperclassmen, reports KOVR via CNN.
Although he was only 10 years old, Troy would do something that would help everyone on the bus. The fifth-grader got a whiff of something strange.
When he boarded the bus, he said he smelled something weird coming from his bus driver, 51-year-old Karolyn Denise Ray.
After she missed a turn and drove onto the highway, Troy said he knew something was wrong and called 911.
Most of Troy’s classmates thought that this was funny. But Troy realized that they were all in danger.
“I was like ok, I’m just going to make that 911 call. Then I made the call.” – Troy.
He pulled out his phone and called the cops. He told them that his bus driver was driving dangerously and talking strangely.
In no time, a police car was on its way to the bus’s route. The cops pulled the bus over. The driver tried to defend herself, but the police insisted on searching her. They soon discovered drugs on the bus driver’s person. She was clearly under the influence of these.
Many of the other kids on the bus had told Troy not to call the police. But unlike those kids, Troy could tell that this was not a fun situation but a life-threatening one.
The police later charged the bus driver for driving under the influence of d.r.u.g.s and child endangerment. The driver was also immediately removed from her position.
When the school learned about what had happened, the leadership was shocked They are now considering severing the school’s ties with the bus company due to the incident.
But the school was amazed that Troy did the right thing in this instance.
They congratulated him for looking out for all of the kids on that vehicle and bringing the bus company’s unprofessionalism to light.
Troy’s family members are also very proud of him. They’ve always known that he has what it takes to be a hero, but now everyone else knows too!
Overall, there were 30 children sat on the bus that day. They ranged from kindergarteners to fifth-graders. All of them are safe thanks to Troy.
It’s amazing to think that someone so young could act so responsibly. And just imagine what Troy could achieve when he grows up! Hopefully, he will enter some branch of public service. He will surely excel in this field.
