Some dogs arrive at the shelter in poor shape. They require a great deal of love and care in order to thrive and realize their full potential.
Recently, one animal rescuer was astonished to discover a shelter dog being “eaten alive” and in extreme discomfort, before she transformed the canine’s life forever.
Whitney Fang, the founder of Hearts & Bones Rescue in Dallas, Texas, uploaded a TikTok video of Paco, a Great Pyrenees mix that was found as a stray and sent to Dallas Animal Services.
Whitney paid a visit to Paco. She stated that the shelter had reached capacity and did not have enough space for large dogs, so she was interested in taking him in as a rescue.
When she saw the dog, she was surprised to see that it was covered with ticks. “He was clearly left to be eaten alive for a very long time,” she wrote, calling him “one of the saddest, most tick-infested strays” she had seen.
The next day, she returned to the shelter to retrieve him — and began “working on his glow-up.”
Over 100 ticks were removed from the dog, and he had anti-flea and anti-tick baths, which provided much-needed and long-overdue relief. Whitney also stated that she was striving to obtain him “much-needed medical appointments.”
Despite his agony, Paco is said to have a surprisingly cheerful outlook.
“Paco is all about vibes,” Whitney wrote on TikTok. “He slowly strolls through a packed shelter and goes about life smelling the butterflies. We could all learn a lesson or two from him!”
In a follow-up video, Whitney stated that Paco was healing from a tick-borne disease and will soon be available for adoption through Hearts and Bones Rescue.
Paco was covered with ticks, which is unfortunate, but we are delighted he was rescued and received much-needed relief! We hope he finds his forever home soon!
