We’ve seen countless videos of airline baggage handlers who, sadly, are caught being disrespectful to people and their bags. But here’s something you might not be aware of, because it normally occurs behind the scenes, and if this doesn’t make you cry, nothing will.
A very unique piece of luggage arrived at this airport, and the handlers recognized it right once, and as they always do, they paid their respects to this veteran.
Meet the Delta Honor Guard, a squad of airline personnel and baggage handlers, at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. They gather on the tarmac as the bodies of a fallen soldier and his K9 arrive home. The Honor Guard performs a ceremony as the caskets are transferred to the plane. As you view the video, take note of the individuals looking in astonishment from inside the terminal overhead.
The smaller coffin is the soldier’s K9 partner who was trained in IEDs. The Delta Honor Guard conducts a handful of these ceremonies each week, on arriving or departing flights. Sometimes, the casket is connected to another Delta flight, where it leaves for its final destination.
Thank you, Delta, for the respect you continue to show to these Fallen Heroes. Your courtesy, respect, and honor are deeply respected and appreciated.
