Check out Meghan’s move on Lilibet’s name that left the Queen fuming.
Meghan Markle is often in the news for several reasons. Once again, she becomes the talk of the town for using her royal status. The Duchess of Sussex has “claimed” the Queen’s nickname for her daughter. Has she gone too far? Dive in to learn the full tale of how Lilibet earned her name.
Lilibet’s Name Sparks Outrage!
A royal source recently stated that Meghan Markle allegedly “copyrighted” the name Lilibet even before daughter Lili was born. However, that wasn’t the biggest surprise. Elizabeth, who was given the moniker “Lilibet” because she couldn’t pronounce her name as a child, was not pleased.
According to royal biographer Robert Hardman, the Sussexes lied about obtaining the Queen’s permission to adopt the nickname. The author of “Charles III: New King, New Court, The Inside Story” remembers Elizabeth being “as angry as I’d ever seen her.” In addition, Hardman believes that, while Elizabeth was aware, she was never joyful.
According to Palace insiders, the Queen may have been unable to simply deny his grandson’s request. However, BBC sources indicated that the Sussexes never officially requested permission from the monarch. It’s as if they invited more talk and a rare public feud. Meghan and Harry’s lawyers quickly stepped in.
They wrote legal letters to the media, calling the claim untrue and defamatory.
Furthermore, royal biographer Angela Levin did not mince words, describing the entire affair as “appalling.” She also claimed the late Queen was “furious.” Levin said the Suits actress had registered the name for formal usage before Lilibet was born.
The woman revealed in a television appearance that Meghan “copyrighted” the name. Back to Hardman, he revealed what the Queen allegedly told her aides. “I don’t own the palaces or the paintings, only my name, and now they’ve taken that,” she told me. Meanwhile, on June 4, 2021, Little Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor arrived at a hospital in Santa Barbara, California.
The Sussexes may have intended to pay homage. However, the backlash has demonstrated how strict the royals’ adherence to tradition can be. Do you think it was a sweet homage or went too far? We will leave it to you to share your ideas in the comments section below!
