Denzel Washington just made announcement of a slew of new projects and with it comes a surprise that many may not have seen coming.

At 69, Denzel Washington is preparing to step away from Hollywood after completing a final slate of films, signaling the end of a career that has spanned decades.

Washington shared, “I don’t know how many more films I’m going to make. Probably not that many.”, Washington told Australia’s Today show.

His upcoming endeavors include reprising his role as Othello, a character he first played when he was 22.

“I’m about to play Othello at 70,” the two-time Academy Award winner revealed.

Additionally, he’s hinted at collaborating with Steve McQueen and Ryan Coogler, who is reportedly crafting a role for him in the next Black Panther film.

Furthermore, Washington also mentioned projects like King Lear before teasing, “After that, I’m going to retire.”

In 1977, Washington’s career began with the made-for-television film Wilma, followed by his feature debut in 1981’s Carbon Copy. Since then, he has become one of the most respected actors in Hollywood, known for unforgettable performances in films such as Glory, Training Day, and Malcolm X. His work has consistently showcased his talent and passion, earning him widespread acclaim and numerous accolades.

Earlier this year, Washington opened up about his desire to be involved with Gladiator II.

The actor said, “There are very few films left for me to make that I’m interested in, and I have to be inspired by the filmmaker”.
