Why Prince Louis won’t be attending VE Day service with parents following his behaviour during very rare public appearance

Following Prince Louis’ headline-making appearance at a recent public event, he will not be attending today’s official VE Day service at Westminster Abbey.

Earlier this week, on 5 May, the seven-year-old royal joined his family at a VE Day parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe — the day marking Germany’s surrender and the end of World War II in Europe. He was accompanied by his parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and his older siblings, Princess Charlotte (10) and Prince George (11).

Although the event honored a significant moment in history, Louis once again managed to steal the spotlight. When George was seen pushing his hair out of his face, Louis cheekily mimicked the gesture exaggeratedly.

The moment quickly went viral, with social media users dubbing him the “Meme King” and praising his humor and charm. One user joked, “10 minutes into the parade and Prince Louis is playing a blinder,” while others called for him to be given a crown.

Despite the public’s delight over his playful behavior, Prince Louis will not be present at today’s solemn VE Day service. In fact, none of the Wales children will be attending — simply because it’s a regular school day.

As crowds gathered outside Westminster Abbey, many royal watchers noted the children’s absence. The three young royals are enrolled at Lambrook School near their home in Windsor and are in class as usual.

Today’s service is a key national moment of reflection and remembrance.

During the ceremony, Alexander Churchill, aged 10 and the great-great-grandson of former Prime Minister Winston Churchill, lit a candle symbolizing peace. At the same time, white roses were handed out to Second World War veterans. The entire nation also observed a two-minute silence in honor of the fallen.

King Charles III and Prince William both laid floral wreaths during the service. The flowers were chosen to reflect what would have been in bloom in May 1945 and were placed at the Grave of the Unknown Warrior. The King laid his wreath on behalf of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth, while Prince William laid one in tribute to veterans.

As the country flies flags and celebrates in streets and pubs, for Charlotte, George, and Louis, it’s just a normal school day.
