An AI-powered YouTube channel has explored a hypothetical scenario imagining what might happen if Barack Obama and Donald Trump both ran for president in 2028.
In a video posted by the channel I Ask AI, the host considered a fictional situation in which the law changes to allow a third presidential term—making it possible for Trump to run again. While the 22nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution clearly prohibits anyone from being elected president more than twice, the creator asked viewers to temporarily set that reality aside for the sake of discussion.
“For the next 15 minutes, forget about the 22nd Amendment,” the host said, encouraging audiences to focus purely on the theoretical matchup.
Once that possibility was introduced, the video suggested that only one major opponent would dominate the conversation: Barack Obama. According to the host, whenever talk of a Trump third term surfaces, Obama’s name quickly follows.
The AI analysis then examined how such campaigns might unfold—what each candidate would promise, how voters might respond, and who would likely come out ahead.

It predicted that Obama’s campaign would largely revolve around countering Trump, emphasizing themes of repair and reversal. The AI suggested Obama would frame himself as someone aiming to stabilize or correct what he might characterize as damage from an extended Trump era. It described him as positioning himself as a contrast—steady where Trump is confrontational, institutional where Trump is disruptive—turning the election into a direct choice between two very different leadership styles.
The AI also speculated that after years of political tension, scandals, and public protests, the country might feel fatigued.
In that environment, it concluded the race would not be especially close, leaning toward what it described as a fairly decisive win for Obama.
Similar hypothetical debates have appeared on X (formerly Twitter), where users have asked the platform’s AI chatbot, Grok, to weigh in on potential 2028 matchups.
However, under current law, Trump cannot seek a third term. The 22nd Amendment states that no person can be elected president more than twice, and anyone who has served more than two years of another president’s term may only be elected once. Trump’s current term is set to end in January 2029, and despite occasional remarks suggesting interest in a third run, the Constitution bars it unless amended.
