A New York couple with nine kids was waiting at a crowded bus stop when a blind man joined the queue. When the bus finally arrived, it was nearly full—leaving just enough room for the wife and the children to squeeze aboard.
Touched by the blind man’s kindness in letting his family go ahead, the husband decided to walk home alongside him, pushing their youngest baby in a stroller.
As they walked, the constant tap-tap-tap of the blind man’s cane woke the baby, who immediately started wailing. Already frustrated about missing the bus, the father snapped, “Can’t you put a rubber tip on that stick? The noise is driving me crazy!”
The blind man calmly replied:
“If you had thought to put a rubber on your stick, we’d both be sitting on that bus right now!”
