Adele split from her husband, Simon Konecki, in 2019.
Adele’s devastating 2023 confession about her divorce from husband Simon Konecki has resurfaced online, as the singer’s Las Vegas concert tour comes to a finish.
The couple, who have an 11-year-old son named Angelo, ended their marriage in 2019, after marrying in secret the year before.
Their divorce was finalised in 2021, and Adele, 35, went on to date – and maybe marry – sports agent Rich Paul.
And, while the ‘Rolling In The Deep’ singer initially kept the breakup of her marriage to Konecki private, fans were ultimately given an insight into what triggered their split during a catch-up with long-time friend James Corden.
Adele appeared on Corden’s The Late Late Show in July 2023, where she thanked the TV star and his wife, Julia, for supporting her and her family after going on holiday with them in the months following her breakup.
“We were on our way home and my mood had changed and it was like the first year that I felt like I had to hold myself accountable, for just being an adult, whereas the year before that I left Simon, that you and Jules and the kids were so integral in looking after me and Angelo,” the singer reminisced.
“You used to do it with humour as well, you used to be like, ‘good luck with that one!’ with any sort of thing that I was pursuing, and you were always so, you were like an adult with me, you and Julia would always give me this advice.”
The singer also made a surprising confession about how much she relied on James and his family, claiming that her popular song ‘I Drink Wine’ was composed after a phone call between the Hollywood pals in 2020, a year after her breakup was publicized.
She said: “[The verse] was inspired by a conversation that you and I had, and it was the 4th of January, 2020 or something.”
“And we’d been on vacation together with the kids.”
The unearthed tape comes only weeks after Adele spoke out about her resolve to quit drinking after realising she had become a ‘borderline alcoholic’.
In October of last year, she told fans that she had forced herself to stop drinking completely since she was having trouble balancing drinks with performing night after night.
As her Vegas residency came to a close, she confessed to her audience at Caesars Palace’s Colosseum, “I stopped drinking maybe like three and a half months ago.”
The ‘Chasing Pavements’ singer continued, “It’s boring.” I mean, I was borderline alcoholic for a good portion of my 20s, yet I miss it so much.”
