One sunny afternoon, a little boy was helping his grandfather rake leaves in the backyard.
As they worked, the boy spotted an earthworm desperately trying to wiggle back into its tiny hole.
With a confident grin, he said,
“Grandpa, I bet I can get that worm back into its hole!”
Grandpa chuckled.
“Not a chance. I’ll bet you five dollars you can’t. That worm is way too wiggly and floppy.”
Without saying another word, the boy dashed into the house.
A moment later, he came running back with a can of hairspray.
He gave the worm a quick spray until it became perfectly straight and stiff.
Then, with one gentle push…
The worm slid neatly back into its hole.
Grandpa stared in disbelief.
Finally, he reached into his wallet and handed the boy five dollars.
Then Grandpa grabbed the hairspray, hurried into the house, and disappeared.
About thirty minutes later, he came back outside with a huge smile and handed the boy another five dollars.
The boy looked confused.
“Grandpa… you already paid me.”
Grandpa laughed.
“I know…”
“That one’s from Grandma.”
