Self-care is extremely important.
If people do not take the time to care for themselves, they will not have the energy to help others. Unfortunately, too many people ignore their own needs and endure discomfort. That’s why Fred + Far, a women-owned jewelry company, started a trend of designing promise rings for women to wear on their pinky fingers as a symbol of their love for themselves.
Melody Godfred, the jewelry series’ founder, stated that the inspiration came from a personal place.
According to her, she needed to devote more time to self-care in her life since, as a busy mother, she recognized she was ignoring herself while giving everything she had to those closest to her.
Godfred and co-founder Samira Far hoped the promise ring series would let women celebrate themselves. One of the rings for the pinky finger indicates that someone is taking care of themselves and is dedicated to their self-care regimen.
During an interview with Mental Scoops, Godfred discussed the idea behind the rings and why she believes they may be so effective for women around.
“I decided to make a necklace for my pinky because it is a finger I’ve never worn a ring on before. It is as ignored as women may be in their personal lives. It was extremely powerful to me to take a typical symbol of devotion to someone else (large, bold engagement rings) and declare, ‘This time, I’m choosing myself.’ I still happily wear my engagement ring, and the two rings are not mutually exclusive. Because loving yourself improves your ability to love others.
The Fred + Far website expresses the topic very effectively in this way. They claim that an engagement ring represents a commitment to another person. One of their self-love pinky rings represents a commitment to loving oneself. Their website sells the original self-love pinky ring, as well as limited-edition versions and rings featuring birthstones.
