Trump slams reporter who calls him ‘nasty’ nickname to his face in brutal interaction

Trump can dish it out, yet seemingly can’t handle any ‘nast[iness] back’ after a reporter revealed a Wall Street nickname for him.

Trump w:arn:ed a reporter not to ‘ever say what’ she ‘said’ again after being asked a question about the effect of his ‘tariff threats’ on the stock market.

Since beginning his second term, Trump has wasted no time, quickly approving a series of executive orders and introducing a wave of tariffs targeting nations worldwide.

These tariffs are expected to affect not just foreign economies, but also major U.S. companies like Walmart and Apple.

Although the initial rollout caused the stock market to tumble, this week reportedly saw a rebound—prompting Wall Street insiders to coin a nickname for the fallout from what Trump dubbed ‘Liberation Day.’

However, the president was visibly displeased when a reporter brought up that nickname during a tense question at a live White House press conference on May 28.

Trump’s ‘TACO trade’

A reporter posed the question to Trump: “They’re saying ‘Trump Always Chickens Out’ on the tariff threats and that’s why markets are higher this week. What’s your response to that?”
The full nickname mocking Trump’s tariffs or in more polite terms, inspired by the president? ‘TACO trade’.

And unsurprisingly, this didn’t go down too well with Trump.

At first, PEOPLE reports the president was a bit confused. For context, the nickname mocks Trump’s extension of various tariffs -for example, pushing back the deadline for negotiations on the 50 percent tariff on EU goods from June 1 to July 9 which, in turn, helped the stock market rise again.

Once the penny had dropped, Trump responded: “Six months ago, this country was stone-cold dead. We had a country, people didn’t think it was gonna survive. And you ask a nasty question like that?”

He shared warn:ing: “Don’t ever say what you said. That’s a nasty question.”

And it’s not the only time Trump hasn’t been able to hack a reporter’s probing.

Trump’s five-word response to a reporter

It follows Trump having a similarly frosty run-in with a journalist on May 20 while speaking to media on Capitol Hill.

A journalist from NOTUS asked: “Andy Harris said that you didn’t adequately convince enough people to vote for the bill?”

Trump replied asking the reporter what publication he worked for, to which he replied NOTUS.

Really getting his claws out, the president responded: “Who? I don’t even know what the hell that is. Get yourself a real job.”
