A crucial new development has occurred with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Netflix arrangement.
After leaving the UK and migrating to the US in 2020 owing to pressures from the British press and difficulties within the royal family, Harry and Meghan have offered the world brief peeks into their existence.
The Sussexes now live in Montecito, Santa Barbara, California, with their two children, Archie (six) and Lilibet (four).
The pair both have their own businesses, including a collaborative Netflix docuseries, their philanthropic organization Archewell, and Meghan’s lifestyle brand, As Ever, which was followed by her own Netflix series, With Love, Meghan.
The eight-part Netflix series stars Mindy Kaling, Abigail Spencer, Delfina Blaquier, and Roy Choi, and allows viewers to ‘join Meghan in the kitchen, garden, and even at the beehive’.
In September 2020, the couple inked a streaming partnership with Netflix to create scripted shows, documentaries, and children’s specials.
While all of their initiatives have received attention, some people believed that the couple’s contract would not be renewed. In late 2024, speculations surfaced that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were planning a ‘professional separation’.
This suggests they intended to focus on their own projects rather than commencing on them as a partnership. This will apparently include having two separate heads of staff.
Miranda Barbot, a seasoned political and media strategist, will work exclusively with Harry. Meanwhile, Sarah Fosmo, a former aide to Microsoft tycoon Bill Gates, will support Meghan.
This will entail assisting Meghan’s business As Ever, managing the second season of With Love, Meghan, and producing episodes for the Duchess’ podcast series, Confessions Of A Female Founder.
And the Sussexes will continue to do business with Netflix, as the Duke and Duchess have announced an extension of their’multi-year, first look arrangement’ with the streaming giant and their production firm Archewell.
This dispels rumors that Netflix intended to break ways with the former royals, which would have been extremely bizarre given the upcoming second season of Meghan’s lifestyle show.
However, a royal specialist suggested that the royal family will have new ‘concerns’ about the content created by Harry and Meghan for Netflix in the future. With Harry’s strained relationship with his father and sibling, Richard Fitzwilliams told the Daily Express that the royal family believes a tell-all documentary would be ‘destructive’.
It is unclear how much the arrangement is worth, although the initial Netflix transaction was estimated to be worth roughly $100 million (£75 million).
